Planning Diary

As you can see from the picture below we firstly began discussing ideas onto the lyric sheet of the song. We produced a long video which discusses initial ideas about the video; we used the lyric sheet as a way to base our inspirations and concepts.

From the initial ideas on the lyric analysis we wrote down potential locations that we would use in the music video.

We felt this was a good way to start as members of the group were able to discuss and contrast initial ideas that would potentially end up in the video. Throughout the process however, not all of our ideas came to fruition.
For example, we initially filmed footage at Boreham house that contained myself and Olly playing roles in which Olly was ‘the girl’s new boyfriend and we were at a ball together, the costume at first was of a formal attire, I myself was dressed wearing a long dress and Olly was wearing a suit. We decided not to use this footage as our idea's developed and changed during the process of making the film as we weren't fully satisfied with some of the shots.

Below is the very first costume check list for the first Boreham house shoot, looking back at the list; because we changed some of the scenes the updated costume check list didn’t have exactly the same costumes. For example on the updated check list ‘the girl’ only needed a dress, heels and a belt. Also the 'other guy' wasn’t included in the video so therefore all of his costumes were no longer needed.

Here was our initial rough cut story board, this is where we began to formulate ideas and discuss as a group what we felt we should include into the video.

We then followed this by creating a finalised story board which we created on a website called ‘pixston’ this was a new website to the group but we felt it enabled us to create an inventive storyboard.
However, as mentioned previously, we did throughout filming make some changes to the story line.

Storyboard Changes

We also had an initial inspiration which was from one of the Walk Off The Earth’s videos – Red Hands.

We liked the fact the video was one long take as it incorporated different aspects of footage by playing and replaying footage at different speeds, however to pull it off effectively would be quite difficult and we didn’t want it to come across to the examiner that we were just reusing footage to be ‘lazy’ so when the idea about the use of clothes came around, we decided it’d be wise not to use this kind of footage.

So from all of the above being changed and planned in the duration of making the music video, I created a rough plan of the ideas we were going to put forward for one of the days of shooting, here it is shown below. This enabled us to stay on point with finalised ideas that would be produced in the final video.
