The Importance of a Target Audiance

A target audience is the intended group for which something is performed or marketed; the specific group to which advertsing is directed. There is many reasons as to why a target audience is important, one being that without a audience there would be no point in creating a media text as its not being shown to anyone or no one is buying the product. Another reason why companies feel that target audiences are important is because the size of the audience is seen as a way of measuring the success of the media product, so a larger audience means a product is more successful. Companies use a website called BARB (Broadcatsers Audience Research Board) which shows the amountnof views each media product has had and from this the company can see if its successful or not. The fact that when audiences purchase the various types of media products it provides an income for that specific media company so without audiences companies would gain no profit.
